"Come as you are!" has been the motto of the Bear community since its inception, The Bear Movement has spread across the world but unfortunately there is a lack of diversity in its representation in media, advertising, and art to say the least. My first experience with a Bear club in the early '90s was one of the rejections but that same experience fulled my desire to see more diversity in the community that I would call home. At the same time, we must take ownership of our representation and become an integral part of the change, and we can no longer stay on the sidelines and ask for change, we must be the change, be involved, and support each other...The time has come for us to expand the definition of what is to be a Bear, as the animal counterpart, we come in a variety of sizes, colors, and nationalities, Is time we break out of captivity and expand the definitions to include the myriad of bear colors that the International Bear Brotherhood Flag represents, for No ones puts Baby in the corner...Not anymore!!! Bear - Hairy gay man

Bears - that’s hairy, beefy and slightly older men

Bear: 1. - A gay or bisexual man who has facial/body hair and a cuddly body. 2. An umbrella term that is often defined as more of an attitude or sense of comfort with natural masculinity and bodies.

Bear – a man with a stocky or heavyset build; typically hairy body and facial hair; sometimes older (or older looking) and displaying a masculine appearance and mannerisms

The Bear - Bears are typically heavy, hairy lovable gays. They’re most likely seem like the guy next door and like to sip on a beer and cook delicious food while listening to metal music. Bears are loved by everyone and they’re not the typical gay best friend but more like the best friend that you want to chug back shots of whiskey with. However, bears can also have attributes that are the same as Chubs the bear will just have lots of hair, size and probably experience.

Bear - Ah, the bears, one of the oldest and largest subgroups of the gay community. Bears are on the heavier side, either muscular, beefy, or chunky. The wouldn’t dream of shaving their body hair (which comes in abundance) and they usually have a full beard to match. They exude masculinity, and are some of the kindest men you’ll meet in your entire life. There are many subtypes of bears, like a polar bear, which is a older bear with white hair.

  • Black Bear - (Black Hairy Gay Man Of African Decent)

  • Ginger Bear - Hairy or heavy set gay man with red hair

  • Kodiak Bear - Another term for hairy or heavy set gay man with red hair

  • Koala Bear - Hairy or heavy set gay man with blonde hair

  • Prizzly Bear - An other term for hairy or heavy set gay man with blonde hair

  • Transgender Bear - (A person who assigned female at birth, but who identifies as a Gay or Bi-Sexual Male as well as Non-Binary that fits into the characteristics of the bear community)

  • Bull - (Hunky, muscular bodybuilders who weigh 200+ pounds. These men are big, strong and have muscles you didn’t even know existed.)

  • The Bull aka Musclechub - (These guys are huge! No, I’m not talking about that… Bulls have giant bodies which could be from muscle, fat or height but don’t be fooled this or their dominant personality in the bedroom. The fact is, bulls can be real softies on the inside, but they are rarely soft inside you! This is probably one of the most disputed gay slang terms and is not often used or tends to be used in straight circles as well.)

  • Bullgoons - (A big burly, beefed-out surly meathead type. Best typified by powerlifters, strongmen, and cops who're near to bustin' their shirt-collars with their throbbing neckveins.)

  • Wolf - (An aggressive, more dominant and hairy slender bear.)​

  • The Wolf - (Like the otter, a wolf is hairy but these guys have a bit of muscle and tend to be more agressive. They probably still hang around hipsters but you can see them tearing up a skate park or on the opposite end their hair is perfectly coiffed and they spend time trimming their hair to still be there but to be absolutely suitable.)
