Playlist Highlight Interview: Kyle McIntire - So Emotional

Kyle McIntire has done it again! The talented singer-songwriter has just dropped his stunning cover of Whitney Houston’s iconic song “So Emotional.” And let me tell you, it’s nothing short of amazing. As a black gay chubby bear who grew up idolizing Whitney’s powerhouse vocals and undeniable charisma, I was eager to see how Kyle would tackle this legendary track. And boy, did he deliver!

You're captivated by the music video from the very beginning. The video, which was directed by Anthony Murphy and has breathtaking photography by Catalin Stelian, is a wonderful match for Kyle's unadulterated passion and singing talent. The contemporary yet grounded appearance of the video tells the tale of a man navigating his feelings by creating a dynamic and visually interesting experience.

But let's talk about the real star of the show: Kyle's voice. He absolutely nails Whitney's song, while still infusing the song with his own unique style by adding a softness to the cover as well as allowing the lyrics to stand out. There's a vulnerability and authenticity to his performance that is both heartbreaking and inspiring. It's clear that Kyle not only respects Whitney's legacy, but also deeply understands the emotional core of the song.

Kyle McIntire's "So Emotional" is more than just a cover; it's a celebration of music, love, and the human experience. It's a testament to Kyle's incredible talent and ability to connect with audiences on a deep emotional level. I can't wait to see what he does next!

I chose So Emotional because it is such a bop! When I was deciding on what songs to choose, this one kept popping into my head…. Also it’s one of my alarms on my phone.. so maybe that had something to do with it 😂 the goal with these covers was use popular songs, and evoke new spirit out of them. I ended up loving this one.

So I had a different director and concept initially, but things fell through, and I ended up having to pivot. Ended up being the best best thing for the project because it got my creative juices flowing. I wanted to give the boys something to enjoy. Less glamour, less glitz, something a little rougher. We found our way to glitz and glam eventually because we all know I love a reveal moment.

The director is my friend, Anthony Murphy, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. We would spend many nights listening to the song, and just spitballing on audio memos making up ideas. This particular idea just came to me one night, and Anthony finessed and got us to where we are today.

That I am a serious artist!! This is my favorite video so far!! I love the locations! I love the production value, and I love the people I collaborated with. So many wonderful friends, a couple new people. Flaming Saddles was so welcoming when I approached them about using their space… and it turned out soo good. Also, that I am a real mechanic… jk lol

How hard it is to find a body shop to shoot in!! Omg I called 20-30 places in Manhattan, and none of them would agree to let me use their space. They all had the same reason, they were exhausted at the end of each day, and didn’t want to wait around while I “Prance around” my words, not theirs. Made total sense. We ended up in Connecticut, using an outdoor space that ended up being SO COOOL. The Walls of tires, rows of tires.. made for such a cool moment. Love that first shot so much!!!

Has to be the people. The amazing group I have around me are so supportive, and committed 100% I just felt so loved, so lucky that people would show up for me. Also, covering myself in dirt make up to make me look dirty… 😂 looking like an extra out of Mary Poppins.
